Chairman of Migration Watch UK, Alp Mehmet, said:
The population hitting 67 million for the first time is a sobering milestone. It comes after two decades of rapid growth - over four-fifths of which has been driven by immigration. This unprecedented increase is the main reason for the housing crisis, congestion and the gobbling up of green space. Increasing pressure on services and communities is why six in ten UK adults want immigration to be cut. The government cannot duck responsibility for its failure to deliver on promises to reduce damaging immigration levels any longer.
